Teaching & Learning
At Coppice Valley we have developed our own culture of teaching and learning which perfectly complements the implementation of our curriculum. Over time we have researched, trialled and reviewed different approaches to teaching and learning to find the right blend of styles and philosophies that suit our school context.
Our ways of teaching and learning have been gathered together in our Teaching, Learning and Assessment Strategy. This document provides our staff with our rationale and information about the way we do things at Coppice Valley. We call it a strategy and not a policy because a strategy is a plan of action designed to achieve a long term goal; our goal is for our pupils to be the best they can be. It covers all aspects of teaching, learning and assessment including planning, marking and feedback, use of teaching assistants and assessment principles. Teaching strategies we promote are explained i.e. retrieval practice, reactivating prior learning, experiential learning and crucially, the importance of positive relationships between adults and pupils and a safe, secure and welcoming environment in which to learn.
