Welcome back year 5/6 - Happy New Year!

Chestnut Class 2018 - 2019

Welcome back Chestnut class! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are ready for some excellent learning this term.

Start of the Day Please escort your child to the playground by 8:55, where they will be collected by their teacher. Please do not wait on the patio.

End of Day KS2 children finish at 3.30pm. Parents should wait outside the class door as usual but KS2 children are expected to be responsible for coming to you. A member of staff will be on the doors to make sure everyone is collected. Please do come up to the patio rather than waiting outside the fence or in your car as we need to be able to see that children are leaving with the correct adult. If you want your child to leave the premises unaccompanied please put this in writing for us. If someone else is picking up your child you must tell us, call school as soon as you can or send a note.

Please provide a named water bottle with a sports cap (so we don’t have any spillages) so your child can have a drink  throughout the day. If you would like to purchase one from school, these can be bought from the office for £1.50.

Homework

We would request that reading is done daily and recorded as often as possible in your child's planner, this will really help them to develop their reading skills, especially if questions are asked about what they are reading. Spellings will be learned in school but extra work at home always helps! As always there is Times Table Rockstars to work on at home and the winners of this will be announced on a Friday during the Marvellous Me assembly.

What your child will be learning about in each subject this half term:

Frozen Kingdom: All about the Arctic and Antarctic regions. This topic ‘drives’ much of our learning, for example in English we are reading The Wolf Wilder to complement our topic and base our writing around.

Science – Animal adaptations/food chains/changes of matter/offspring-differences

Geography – Arctic and Antarctic regions and people who live there

Music –  Music inspired by the Northern Lights

Art & Design –  Inuit Artwork/Plastic in the ocean artwork

I.C.T. – Internet safety; deprogramming, researching from reliable sources

P.E.  Invasion games; Orienteering

RE – What matters most to Christians, Humanists and me

           Easter: redemption and renewal

French – Cher Zoo

PE kit- Please make sure your child has full P.E kit the whole week as PE will be on a variety of days. They need indoor and outdoor kit please – white or house colour plain T-shirt,  blue/black shorts, blue/black tracksuit and trainers are essential items. If your child has a medical reason for not participating in PE, you must send a note in. As you can imagine, we do get children saying they are not allowed to do PE! It is impossible for us to know who is genuinely unable without your note.

If you would like to discuss anything with your child's class teacher, please speak with them on the playground at the beginning of the day or at the end of the school day when you collect your child. As we only have limited time at these times, please make an appointment with the teacher if you have something longer you wish to discuss.
