COPPICE VALLEY PE AND SPORTS
At Coppice Valley we value how PE contributes to the mental and physical health of our pupils. We want our pupils to leave Coppice Valley with positive attitudes towards sport and fitness and healthy exercise habits for life. We also recognise how PE develops character in children like persistence, resilience and team work, and ambition. These elements are built into our curriculum. P.E. is linked to other subjects in our curriculum i.e. science and the human body, music and dance.
We are committed to ensuring that pupils receive high quality, well-planned PE per week delivered by confident and well-trained teachers and coaches to a high level. As such, we have invested in training and resources from Real PE. The school has also joined the Association for Physical Education and the Youth Sports Trust. Membership of these organisations ensures good practice in PE teaching and health and safety. The Youth Sports trust is charity working to ensure all children enjoy the benefits of life-changing sport. Coppice Valley has already earned a Bronze Award for the work we do to involve pupils in local competitive sport. The school takes part in competitions with local Harrogate schools which include football and dodgeball. We are able to travel to sports events using the Red Kite Trust mini-bus.
Clubs form a part of the additional enrichment our curriculum offers. At lunchtime we have clubs for dance, football and outdoor games. The Daily Mile also features. After school, during the course of the school year, we run gymnastics, multi-sports, running, athletics, karate and football to name a few. Lunchtime clubs are free and run by school staff. Most after school clubs are run by school staff at a very small charge to cover costs. Some clubs are run by local providers who make a charge as well.
