PE and Sports
At Coppice Valley we value how PE contributes to the mental and physical health of our pupils. We want our pupils to leave us with positive attitudes towards sport and fitness and have healthy exercise habits for life. We also recognise how PE develops character in children like persistence, resilience, team work and ambition. P.E. is linked to other subjects in our curriculum i.e. science and the human body, music and dance.
We are committed to ensuring that pupils receive high quality, well-planned PE every week delivered by confident and well-trained teachers and coaches to a high level. We have invested in training and resources from Real PE and a Sports Coach. The school has also joined the Association for Physical Education and the Youth Sports Trust. Membership of these organisations ensures good practice in PE teaching and health and safety. The Youth Sports trust is a charity working to ensure all children enjoy the benefits of life-changing sport. Coppice Valley has already earned a Bronze Award for the work we do to involve pupils in local competitive sport. The school takes part in competitions with local Harrogate schools which include football and dodgeball. We are able to travel to sports events and fixtures using the Red Kite Trust mini-bus.
Clubs form a part of the additional enrichment our curriculum offers. At lunchtime we have clubs for dance, football and outdoor games. After school we run gymnastics, multi-sports, running, athletics, karate and football clubs, to name a few, led by experts and trained professionals. Lunchtime clubs are free and run by school staff.
