Special Educational Needs, Disability & Inclusion
Coppice Valley takes a whole school approach to Inclusion. We work together to ensure every child achieves the best possible outcomes they can, academically, socially and emotionally. We care about the development of the whole child and have high expectations for all children. We recognise that some children may need additional help to support their individual learning needs. In collaboration with parents, carers and the support of external agencies, we aim for all children to make progress, academic, social and emotional progress, from their own starting points.
Under the aims of the Public Sector Equality Duty, Coppice Valley Primary School is committed to:
- Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
- Foster good relations across all characteristics, and between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
Coppice Valley has an Equality Plan to ensure we are always working to improve.
Please see here for our Admissions Arrangements for children with special needs and disabilities.
SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPY
We work in partnership with our local health care providers including Harrogate Hospital's Speech and Language Therapy Team. In school, we allocate a proportion of an advanced teaching assistant's time to liaising with the speech and language therapists and carrying out support programmes in school. If we feel your child may benefit from speech and language therapy we will talk to you about putting in a referral to the service to get their advice and support. Please talk to your child's class teacher, or our special needs coordinator, Miss Watkinson, if you are concerned about your child's speech or language development.
MENTAL HEALTH & WELL-BEING
Coppice Valley is committed to improving mental health and well-being through education and offering support. We teach all pupils about mental health and how to look after their own and others around them. Please follow this link to our Mental Health and Wellbeing page for more information.
