Friday Update 5.7.24

Posted 5th July 2024

Message from Miss McNamara

This week has been another busy week, with so much to celebrate.

Year 6 Production

Today, our Year 6 pupils put on their end of year performance for the whole-school in a dress-rehearsal and for their parents this afternoon. I have been so impressed with how many lines they have learnt and how they each continue to remain in role, even when they are not on stage! It is the first Year 6 production since pre-Covid at Coppice and so they haven't been able to see other cohorts put on a performance however, they have definitely shown the rest of the school just how to do it!

It is wonderful to see the children being so confident on stage - they are certainly ready for secondary school!

Forest School Staff CPD

As you know, Mrs Hardy and Mrs Brook have been completing their Forest School training, so we can develop our Nature School, which currently runs in EYFS, to a whole-school Forest School offer. This week they were assessed in their woodwork skills, their campfire skills and their mastery of the different knot types. They have both designed and made a 3 course meal over a campfire (including a lemon tart baked in the lemon skin, a three bean chilli and halloumi skewers), whittled miniature fairy furniture (for the Coppice fairies) and passed their knot skills exam.

We are so excited about being able to offer sessions across the school next year. Mrs Hardy and Mrs Brook have put a lot of work in, outside of school hours, developing their skills as well as the policies and procedures which come with meeting the Health & Safety requirements of Forest School - thank you to both.

Awards

This week we have been given 2 awards!

FEAST Champion School

Coppice Valley Primary School has been selected to receive one of the first FEAST School Engagement Awards.

It is to recognise all the hard work that we put into making FEAST a success. It acknowledges that we go above and beyond to make sure that eligible families have access to holiday activities and healthy meals, helping them to thrive.

Harrogate Walk to School Gold Award

This award recognises our participation in all the Walk to School Days.

Walk to School Days take place once every half-term, and they promote good transport habits on a daily and weekly basis, to improve air quality, reduce congestion and improve pupil health and wellbeing.

Transition and Staffing

Next week, on Thursday 11th July, we are having our transition afternoon where every class will get to spend the afternoon with their new class teacher.

The only current member of teaching staff changing year groups is Miss Ramsay who, as you know, is moving into Year 6.

On Thursday, we are delighted to also be joined by Mrs Riley, who is going to be taking over from Miss Dodd when her maternity starts. Mrs Riley is an experienced teacher who has also completed the Forest School training.
