Beech - KS1 Year 1

Welcome to Beech class, Year 1 at Coppice Valley Primary

We have a fabulous half term ahead in Year 1.  Our term will continue with a history focus whilst we learn about famous explorers and the changes they have brought to us.  We will be practicing our writing skills by learning more about how to write poetry. We will develop our creative skills in art by looking at sculpture and the work of Barbara Hepworth. We will continue to look at seasonal changes with a scientific eye recording our findings as well as understanding what different types of animals there are, and we will be looking at measures and fractions in Maths as we introduce our Beech ' Pizzeria' later in the term.  

As always Beech class will also be able to develop their own learning through play, experiments, music, and discussion. Creativity will be a big part of our learning, continuing to look at collage techniques and how we can use recycled materials in our artwork, which also supports our Coppice 50 aims of making our school more environmentally friendly as well as raising money for a charity this half term. We also have our school sleepover, seeing us complete another Coppice 50. A big part of everyday will be around phonics, working towards our phonics screening check in June with supportive writing and maths mastery every day and plenty of time to read. We will use our amazing outdoor space for practical learning as much as we can this term. We will be kind, curious and brave; always aiming high and working hard.

Key information:

• PE days are Monday and Wednesday

• Drop-off time is between 8:45am - 8.55am. Pick-up time is between 3:25. Please drop off and collect your child from the Beech class door - this is accessed on the other side of school to EYFS although the doors are next to each other. 

• Please inform us if somebody different is picking your child up from school.

• Please make sure your child brings their own water bottle to school each day.
