Beech - KS1 Year 1

Welcome to Beech class, Year 1 at Coppice Valley Primary

We cannot believe it is the last half term in Beech class.  It is a busy half term, when our hard work in phonics comes together and we can shine in our reading.  Our  history focus this half term is Kings and Queens so we will have great fun also thinking about castles and how Royals have lived in History. We will be practicing our writing skills by writing a creative short story. We are really excited that we have the opportunity to see the work of Barbara Hepworth up close with our school visit to The Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We will be looking at fractions, time and money in Maths as we use our Beech ' Pizzeria' and bring all those our maths learning together.  We are excited for our sports day prep and our transition work for moving up. 

As always Beech class will also be able to develop their own learning through play, experiments, music, and discussion. Creativity will be a big part of our learning, we will look at sewing techniques in DT and create a Binca book mark.  We also go on a ramble at the YSP, seeing us complete another Coppice 50. Our science learning will be around animal types, our human body and identifying features. A big part of everyday will be around phonics, maths mastery every day and plenty of time to read. We will use our amazing outdoor space for practical learning as much as we can this term. We will be kind, curious and brave; always aiming high and working hard.   

Key information:

• PE days are Monday and Wednesday

• Drop-off time is between 8:45am - 8.55am. Pick-up time is between 3:25. Please drop off and collect your child from the Beech class door - this is accessed on the other side of school to EYFS although the doors are next to each other. 

• Please inform us if somebody different is picking your child up from school.

• Please make sure your child brings their own water bottle to school each day.
