English
The English vision at Coppice Valley Primary School centres on English as the bedrock of learning, enabling broader curriculum access.
We aim to nurture adept writers capable of expressing themselves for enjoyment and practical purposes. Our writing curriculum aligns with National Curriculum objectives, fostering creativity via real-world writing opportunities, inspired by Alan Peat and Michael Tidd. Continuous writing assessment prioritises clarity, audience awareness, purpose, and expanding vocabulary and grammar skills. To cultivate a love for reading, we expose students to diverse texts tied to curriculum themes. Our initiatives like class libraries, a well-stocked central library, World Book Day celebrations, reading scrapbooks, lunchtime library sessions, and reading volunteers bolster reading engagement. Daily reading sessions focus on pleasure and structured skill development across Key Stages.
Oracy is pivotal, fostering active listening, clear articulation, and effective communication. It serves as the foundation for reading, writing, and overall progress across subjects.
