Message from Miss McNamara
This week, I have been enjoying seeing the new reading groups across Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 up and running across school. The children have been making excellent progress already and have been given brand new books to read at home. We have a new assessment system which is supporting us to identify gaps in children's phonics knowledge - we are really excited for the future of reading fluency at Coppice.
We also had our 3rd Governor's meeting of the year this week and as always, the Governors were really impressed with the learning in school and the progress of the development plan. I update governors on the 4 'Cs' - Curriculum, Culture, Children and Community.
Attendance
We have a school target for our attendance of 97%.
This week's attendance is: 95.7%
School year so far: 96.6%
Arriving after 8:55am, which is when registers are taken, affects attendance. Our registers close at 9am.
This week, 13 children have been late to school.
E-Safety Day
Next week, it is e-safety day. We will be talking to the children about keeping themselves and others safe online through lessons in school and our e-safety leaders have produced a presentation to share with the school. If you are interested in understanding more about dangers online and smartphone tips, there are free online courses aimed at parents and carers here:
Children's Mental Health Week
Next week it is also Children's Mental Health Week. We will be launching our new wellbeing toolkit with the children, which will support them to reflect on their own wellbeing and what strategies they can use to help themselves to have good mental health.
World Book Day
On Thursday 7th March, we will be celebrating World Book Day with a range of exciting activities in school. This year, we will be asking children to dress up as a word again. We hope this means that you won't need to buy anything and that you can select from the fancy dress items you already have at home. We will be posting some simple ideas on our social media in the lead up to the day.
