A Message from Miss McNamara

This week we are incredibly proud of all our Year 6 pupils who have worked tremendously hard during their SATs week. It is their first experience of more formal testing and they all coped so well, demonstrating their knowledge and stamina -they are certainly secondary school ready. To celebrate Year 6 and their hard work, the whole school had ice lollies today.

We understand that tests measure only a small part of our children’s abilities. They don't capture their artistic talents, athletic skills, kindness, sense of humour, or passions. We are now looking forward to several fantastic opportunities for our Year 6 class, including collaborating with Harrogate Theatre on a production, attending Crucial Crew, and participating in the Brownlee Foundation Mini-Triathlon.

This week, it has also been Mental Health Awareness Week. The theme has been 'Move Your Mood' and we have been doing things for our wellbeing - such as using the sensory path and our outdoor space for mindfulness. We hope that the Wellbeing Toolkit your child recently brought home has been useful too.

Next week is the final week of term. It looks like we may get some warmer weather, so please do send your child in wearing sun cream and a hat. Please also name any sun cream sent into school.

Governors

This week we had our fourth annual meeting and we welcomed 2 new Governors to our board - Cllr Peter Lacey and Penny Garner. Our webpage is currently being updated and you will soon be able to read their bios.

Beth Hope has stepped back from her role on our LGB, due to other commitments. We would like to take this opportunity to thank her for everything she has done and the support given to Coppice Valley over the last few years.

Reading Ambassadors

We have been working really hard in our Key Stage Libraries and across to school to make our reading offer even better! We now have a Key Stage 2 reading scheme as well as lots of new books in the libraries and class libraries too. Our next step is to invest in non-fiction books, as we know our children want more of these.

Mrs Gibbons recently interviewed 75 children (!) for the role of Reading Ambassador. The applicants were all brilliant and it was almost impossible to choose. Their passion for reading was wonderful to hear -  huge congratulations to the following children (who will be getting their first assignment soon!):

Year 1: Sid & Freda

Year 2: Leonardo & Finlay

Year 3: Flo & Willow

Year 4: Poppy & Leonardo

Year 5: Vivien & Carter

Year 6: Dylan & Kitty

PTFA Healthy Tuck Shop

Next Friday, it is the PTFA Healthy Tuck Shop.

Once a month, on the last Friday of the month, the PTFA are running a healthy tuck shop. If your child would like to bring £1 on 24th May, then they can come to The Treehouse (Miss Wright's room) from 10:15 to 10:45 and choose a healthy break time snack. All money raised helps the PTFA to support our brilliant school.

Clubs

Our school clubs for next half term are currently open. They close Sunday at 9pm - so make sure you sign up before then!
