Miss McNamara's Message
This week’s focus is a little different—on our amazing staff rather than our lovely pupils!
At Coppice Valley, we place a high value on professional development, ensuring our teaching strategies and curriculum stay up to date with the latest research.
Last Friday, as you know, we attended the Red Kite Alliance Primary Science Day. It was a fantastic event, featuring two inspiring keynote speakers. Staff participated in workshops tailored to their roles, covering topics such as outdoor learning, promoting diversity in the curriculum, Space, practical science activities, and working scientifically. It was an incredibly valuable day, and we were delighted to win some exciting resources for our school in the raffle too!
Recently, we were proud to host 27 deputy headteachers at our school, who came to see all the amazing things we’re doing here at Coppice Valley. This week, two schools in our Trust returned the favour, giving two of our teachers the opportunity to visit their schools. These visits are always a fantastic chance to magpie new ideas and build professional networks.
Miss Winterburn, our new English leader, has hit the ground running in her role. As part of her leadership (although she’s already an experienced English subject leader), she attended a reading conference at Roundhay Primary School. With reading for pleasure being one of our key focuses—something you may have spotted in our recent Mumblr article—this was a great opportunity to deepen our approach to fostering a love of reading across the school.
In our staff meeting this week, the buzz continued as teachers excitedly shared their plans for the next writing units. We discussed our chosen books, intended writing outcomes, and the strategies we’ll be using along the way. We can’t wait to see our pupils hooked on their new books and fully immersed in their writing journeys next week!
Consultation for Nursery at Coppice Valley Primary School
We have opened a consultation regarding the development of a new nursery provision at Coppice Valley Primary School, set to open in September 2026. This consultation is part of the planning process that the Local Authority requires schools to undertake when proposing a change to provision. The consultation relates to our proposal to introduce nursery provision for 26 three-year-old children.
The consultation will open on Monday 18th November and the deadline for responding with any comments is Friday 6th December at 5pm.
If you would like to share your views on these arrangements, please either:
- complete the Form
- or e-mail your response, with the subject “Consultation Response” to: office@cvps.rklt.co.uk
- or by post to the registered office address: The Headteacher, Coppice Valley Primary School, Knapping Hill, HG1 2DN.
The school will also be hosting a consultation evening on Thursday 5th December, at 6:30pm in the main hall, where interested parties can hear more about the proposals, ask questions and feedback their comments.

School Dinners
We are keen to understand your choices regarding school meals and packed lunches for your child. Your feedback is vital in helping us improve our school dinner offerings to better meet the needs and preferences of families. Whether your child regularly has school dinners, occasionally chooses them, or prefers packed lunches, we would like to hear about your experience. What factors influence your decision? Are there aspects of our school meals that could be enhanced to make them a more appealing option for your child? Your input will guide us in creating an offering that works for everyone. Thank you for your support!

Christmas Jumper Swap!
We recommend you dig out last year's festive jumpers this weekend and then pay our Community Hub a visit. There is a new double rail in there to support the swapping of Christmas jumpers. This helps us all to reduce landfill, as well as everyone to have a festive jumper for our upcoming calendar of events!
