Intent
At Coppice Valley Primary School, English is pivotal for interdisciplinary learning. Our aim is to nurture proficient writers, recognizing literacy as vital for personal and professional expression. Our curriculum encourages creativity, aligning with National Curriculum objectives through practical writing experiences.
Implementation
Our writing curriculum focuses on clear, accurate, and coherent writing, emphasizing vocabulary and grammar development based on the DFE National Curriculum for England. Inspired by Alan Peat and Michael Tidd, our approach guides children through the writing process, fostering individuality and creativity. We use SPaG input, analysis, and practice for skill progression, visually represented in classrooms.
Impact
Our approach empowers children to effectively express and organize ideas, showcasing clarity, audience awareness, purpose, context understanding, and improved language skills.
Assessment involves detailed evaluations using Writing Progression Trackers, guiding discussions for next steps in Pupil Progress Meetings. Continuous monitoring by leadership supports school-wide writing improvements.
