Good afternoon,

After what seems like the longest January ever, February is finally here. There’s a lot going on in the coming week so have your diaries ready today!

MeditationChildren’s Mental Health Week – 6-10 February

We’ll be talking about all things mental health with the children next week in assemblies and lessons. This special week will culminate in a carousel day of mental health activities on Friday 10th February. Children will work in mixed age groups, the same ones they were in on Wednesday for Pupil Voice Conference.

Pupil Voice Conference

Our children have shared their thoughts about school with us about what is going well and what could be better, this week. My favourite idea is to make the playground bouncy! Over the next week, the staff and I will be going over the children’s ideas to consider which (and how!) we can action. I’ll be keeping the children in the loop in assemblies and will keep you all posted in the upcoming Friday updates.

Non-uniform Day – Friday 10 February

Children can come in their own clothes on Friday for a contribution (£1 suggested) to the PTA fundraising project.

Free Books!

We’re clearing out some old but still good condition books from our library. We’re going to put them outside for you to take.

Young Voices

Well done to all our Young Voices singers who performed brilliantly last night and a big thanks to the staff and parents who supported them in Sheffield. It was a late night but well worth it.

Bee Garden Sign Competition

Year 1 have been working on two of their Coppice 50 challenges this half term, raising money for charity and making the school more environmentally friendly. They have been working with the Royal Horticultural Society on how to encourage more pollinators to our school and have launched a competition this week alongside the RHS to design a sign for our Bee garden. In true Blue Peter style, they have agreed to create a permanent sign for us from one of the children's designs. If your child would like to enter please ask them to drop of 0.50p to Beech class and their design for the sign and we will use the money to buy a bee house from the RHS for our garden. Thank you in advance.

The closing date has been changed to Monday 20th February 9am, to give you time in half-term to complete it.

Bilton Library Book Mark Competition

Every year, Bilton Library chooses a school to design a bookmark which they produce and give out at their library. This year it is our turn! On Monday 6th February, the children will be told about the competition and given templates to complete with their entry, if they wish to enter. Look out for the templates coming home in bookbags next week. The children should complete their entry (if they want to) and return it to school by Friday 24th February, 9am.

World Book Day Plans

This year we are celebrating World Book Day a day earlier than usual. (There is a lot already going on in school on the Thursday so we can’t make it work this year). So, on WEDNESDAY 1st MARCH, children should come to school dressed as a word! This is a super-easy dress up option for which you don’t need to buy a thing. For example, children could wear their pyjamas as the word “sleepy” or come all in blue clothes as the word “blue”. You can come in your uniform as the word “school”. There are loads of ideas online and we’ll be posting ideas on social media in the coming weeks to help.

warning-64Don’t forget, we break up next Friday 10th at the usual time and come back on Monday 20th February,

Kind regards,

Emma Meadus

Headteacher
