Miss McNamara's Message

It's been another busy and brilliant week at Coppice Valley, filled with exciting opportunities for our pupils and valuable professional reflection for our staff.

We were delighted to welcome two visiting school leaders into Coppice this week. On Thursday, Caroline Johnson, Headteacher at Colton Primary (part of our RKLT family), spent time with our subject leaders, sharing ideas and exploring our curriculum development.

We were also joined this morning by Alastair Field, Head of Primary at Roundhay School, who came to celebrate the fantastic progress we’ve made in our English curriculum over the past year. You may remember that we introduced a new structure to our writing curriculum, designed to broaden the opportunities and outcomes for our children - it’s wonderful to see that work being recognised and celebrated. A big shout out to our brilliant teachers who have had a very busy week, on top of their usual lesson delivery!

Alongside this, I’ve continued my work as part of a leadership triad with two other headteachers, a collaborative initiative that gives us the opportunity to share best practice, challenge our thinking, and strengthen school improvement across our partnership.

Our assemblies this week were full of energy and inspiration. We marked International Dance Day with a special dance assembly led by AM Academy, giving our pupils (and staff) a positive and energised start to the day. We also welcomed Lauren Doherty into school to deliver a powerful road safety session to children in Y4-6.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Outdoor Learning Day Celebration!

We are excited to announce that every class will be taking one area of their learning outdoors to celebrate Outdoor Learning Day, next Thursday! This event encourages students to engage with nature and enjoy the benefits of outdoor learning, such as improved focus, creativity, and a deeper connection to the natural world.

Parents/Carers, please ensure your children are prepared with sunscreen if needed, hats, water bottles, and weather-appropriate clothing.

Lost Property

We have gathered all unnamed lost property items and put them in the hub. Please feel free to visit and check for any missing belongings.

E-Safety Leaders Poster Competition: Promote Healthy Device Use!

Calling all creative minds! E-Safety Leaders are excited to announce a poster competition focused on healthy device use. This is your chance to design a poster that spreads awareness and promotes healthy screen habits.

How can we use devices in a healthy way? Get creative and show us your ideas! Whether it's tips on taking regular breaks, setting screen time limits, or encouraging outdoor activities, we want to see your unique perspective.

Competition Details:

  • Deadline: 19th May
  • Poster Templates: Available from E-Safety Leaders or Miss Wright

Don't miss out on this opportunity to make a difference and showcase your creativity. We look forward to seeing your amazing designs!

Sports Day Plan

Get Ready for Sports Day!

Mark your calendars for Thursday, 19 June – it's Sports Day! 🎉

Morning Session: Oak, Beech and Ash classes will kick off the fun.
Lunch: Our pupils will enjoy an early lunch from 12-1pm.
Afternoon Session: Sycamore, Apple, Chestnut, and Willow classes will then enjoy their sports day! Please arrive at 1pm to sign in.

If you're attending both sessions, we kindly ask that you leave the school site after the morning session and return for the afternoon festivities.

If you are available to volunteer to help with Sports Day, please let us know by emailing office@cvps.rklt.co.uk.

Highlights for next week!

  • Ash class will be creating an invention based on our book, Rosie Revere Engineer 🛠️, and writing an explanation on how to use their invention. In Science, we will be heading back outside to continue our work on habitats and micro habitats. 🌲
  • Sycamore class are starting a new unit in Maths on Money. Mrs Riley would love you to support this at home over the weekend by allowing the children to handle pennies and pounds where possible. Exposure with real coins to play shops, ask for change and talk about pounds and pence would be wonderful please.  👛
  • Year 4 will be starting their geography fieldwork to measure and record the weather at our school. 🌡️ 🌧️ ☀️
