Miss McNamara's Message

It has been one of those weeks where there has been lots going on behind the scenes, as well as plenty for the children to enjoy.

A huge thank you to Mrs Hawkins for organising our Art Day this week. She planned the entire day from Reception to Year 6, with each year group exploring a different artist and creating work inspired by their style. The classrooms were full of creativity and enthusiasm throughout the day, and it was lovely to see the children so engaged. One of my favourite parts was at the end of the day when classes moved around the school to look at each other's work. There was a real sense of pride, with children keen to share what they had created and admire the work of others.

We also welcomed colleagues from across the Red Kite Alliance for a Peer Review focused on science. They spent time in classrooms, talking to children, looking at work and exploring how science is taught across the school. They were particularly positive about the consistency of science provision and the amount of practical, hands-on learning taking place. Our children spoke confidently about what they have learned and clearly enjoy getting stuck into investigations and experiments.

A special thank you goes to Miss Ramsay, who has worked incredibly hard as our Science Lead. Reviews like this are a great opportunity to celebrate what is working well, whilst also helping us identify the next steps that will make our provision even stronger.

I'd also like to thank the wider staff team. Peer Reviews only work when everyone is willing to open their classroom doors, share their practice and welcome feedback. Staff always support these opportunities with professionalism and positivity, helping us showcase our school whilst ensuring we continue to learn and improve.

Transition Morning

Our Transition Morning will take place on Wednesday 8th July. During the morning, all children will spend time with their new teacher for September. This is always an exciting opportunity for children to begin building relationships, become familiar with their new classroom environment and start looking ahead to the next stage of their learning journey.

We know that for some children, this upcoming change can bring worries as well as excitement. If your child is feeling anxious about moving to a new class, please do speak to their current class teacher so that we can support them.

When talking about transition at home, it can be helpful to acknowledge worries whilst also focusing on the things your child can look forward to. Helpful phrases might include:

  • "It's okay to feel a bit nervous about something new."
  • "Your new teacher is looking forward to getting to know you."
  • "You won't be expected to know everything on the first day."
  • "Lots of children will be feeling the same way."
  • "Let's think about one thing you're excited about."
  • "If you're worried, there will always be an adult in school who can help."

We find that children often take their lead from the adults around them, so keeping conversations positive, calm and reassuring can make a big difference.

KS2 SATs Results

You may have seen in the national news that the publication of KS2 SATs results has been delayed this year due to issues at a national level. Whilst schools are still waiting for this information, we will continue to work to our usual report deadlines. This means reports will be sent out as planned, but Year 6 reports will not include the end of KS2 assessment outcomes. As soon as we receive the validated results, we will share these separately with Year 6 families.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We are now firmly into the final few weeks of the school year and there is still plenty to look forward to before the summer holidays arrive.

Have a lovely weekend.

We look forward to welcoming you and celebrating another successful year of art at Coppice.

Polite Reminder - Outstanding Balances

As we approach the end of the academic year, we kindly ask all families to check their accounts to ensure any outstanding balances are cleared. Please take a moment to log in and review:

  • Arbor – for school meals and trips
  • Enrolmy – for clubs and wraparound care

Clearing balances before the end of term helps us ensure a smooth transition into the new academic year and allows us to finalise our accounts. If you have any queries or need support accessing your accounts, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, we’re happy to help.

Eco Tip:

The World Cup is inspiring more people to play football in their local parks and green spaces. Help protect these areas by taking your litter home or using nearby bins and leaving every pitch and playground cleaner than you found it. 🌍♻️
