? Outdoor Development
We were absolutely thrilled to welcome the Project Manager from Northern Powergrid to school this week, along with contractor representatives. They spent time with myself and Mrs Fineran understanding our vision for outdoor learning and how we’re using nature to enhance the curriculum. We’re incredibly grateful to Northern Powergrid for their generous biodiversity grant of £50,000 to help develop our outdoor areas. This will make a transformational difference to the experiences we can offer our children – watch this space for updates on the project!
? Year 4 Multiplication Check
A huge well done to our Year 4 pupils who completed their Multiplication Tables Check this week. They tackled it with focus and resilience – we’re very proud of them. Thank you to our staff and families for supporting them with practice and encouragement. Children answer 25 mixed questions, each within 6 seconds. The DfE report on pupils who achieve 25/25 and we ill share this data with you at the end of the academic year.
? Enrichment Experiences
This week, Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic visit to Countryside Day , where they got hands-on with farming, food production, and countryside life. They also took part in a live STEM online workshop, exploring problem-solving and innovation through engaging activities. These kinds of trips and workshops are part of our commitment to providing pupils with memorable experiences that bring learning to life.
With rising transport costs and increasing pressure on school budgets, funding trips is becoming more challenging. However, at Coppice, we firmly believe that learning goes beyond the classroom walls.
We’re currently planning our residentials, trips, and workshops for next year to ensure our pupils continue to enjoy rich, memorable experiences. Whether it’s a day of hands-on activities in school, a sleepover with classmates, a creative workshop, or an educational visit further afield, these moments help bring learning to life and build lasting memories.
Our upcoming grounds development will also play a key role in this. By creating more engaging outdoor learning spaces on-site, we’ll be able to offer even more exciting lessons and experiences—without the added cost of transport.
? A Quick Reminder – No Toys from Home
Please can we remind families that children should not bring toys to play with from home. We know how precious these items are, and unfortunately they can easily get lost or damaged. Thank you for helping us keep everyone’s belongings safe.
☔ Red Kite Olympics Postponed
Sadly, due to today’s wet weather, we have had to postpone the Red Kite Olympics. We know the children were looking forward to it and we’ll let you know the rearranged date as soon as possible.
Have a wonderful (and wet!) weekend.
This event promises to be a delightful afternoon where families and children can come together to enjoy some Summer fun.
You may wish to bring along something to sit on, for example a picnic blanket or a camping chair, so that you can comfortably settle on the field with your children. You may also wish to bring along a drink and a snack, although refreshments will be available to purchase.
We have a fantastic programme lined up, including music and dancing, playground games, and a serene calm canopy for those who wish to unwind. Additionally, we are thrilled to have Harrogate Town Football Club joining us, along with a variety of arts and crafts activities, fun photography opportunities, and, of course, ice pops to keep everyone cool!
To bring the festival atmosphere, we encourage you to wear flower headbands, glow sticks, or even turn your caps back to front! It’s all about embracing the fun and creativity of the day.
We truly hope that you can join us for this wonderful event for the children and the entire school community.
Rock on!
The Coppice Valley Team
Please look out for FEAST vouchers - they will be delivered to families on email or text on the 23rd June.
Visit the FEAST website for more information, or speak to Miss Wright.
What a busy week!

Instead of buying new things all the time, try shopping at charity shops or visiting car boot sales with your family. You can find toys, books, clothes, and more — all looking for a new home!
And when you’ve outgrown something, donate it so someone else can enjoy it too. Giving and getting pre-loved items helps reduce waste and saves resources. It’s like recycling, but more fun! ♻️?
