Miss McNamara's Message
We are so lucky to have such a buzzing, thriving school where I’m never short of things to write about each week! That’s all down to our supportive community, amazing staff, and brilliant children - who are all really 'up for it'.
Here are just a few highlights from another wonderful week at Coppice Valley:
1. A Cheer for English!
This week, we received our report from the Red Kite Alliance, following a monitoring visit in May. The report described the work we have done with our English curriculum as being implemented by staff with a 'palpable sense of determination and drive'. Amongst many celebrations, the advisor noted that there is 'much to applaud and celebrate at this wonderful school'.
2. Buzzing with Creative Pride
Classes across the school have been engaged in all sorts of creative activities this week. Year 3 impressed us all with their stunning bee-themed artwork, showing real attention to detail and care.
3. Outdoor Learning in Action
Sometimes when I walk around school, the classrooms are empty! This is because our teachers are taking learning outside. Year 4 have been taking their maths and English outdoors under our canopy, children have been learning to ride bikes and our Forest School is in action.
4. KS2 E-Safety Workshops
Years 4-6 had e-safety workshops which were tailored to their year group. The workshop was aimed at empowering our pupils to assess their own online activity, determine if they are using their time online productively and equip them with the tools needed for healthy, online lifestyles.
I know many of you follow us on social media already to see our updates through the week. Please do share our Facebook and Instagram pages with friends and family. We love showcasing all the fantastic things happening at Coppice Valley, and our social media gets lots of attention. The more interest we generate, the more support we build for our school.
Jewellery and Valuables in School – Important Reminder
We would like to remind all parents and carers of our school’s policy regarding jewellery and valuables to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils.
Jewellery should not be worn in school. This is to prevent potential injury to the wearer or others, especially during physical activities such as PE and playtime. This includes smart watches, which are not permitted for safeguarding reasons.
Please see the guidance here on our website - Coppice Valley Primary School - Red Kite Learning Trust - Uniform & Appearance

North Yorkshire Violence Survey
Jo Coles, York and North Yorkshire Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime, is calling on the public to share their views on violence and community safety in York and North Yorkshire. This year’s survey also includes specific questions about violence against women and girls.
The survey is open until Friday 4 July 2025 and can be accessed here: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/ViolenceSurvey
Data shows that between April to September 2024, serious violence fell by 10% in York and North Yorkshire compared to the same period in the previous year. This year’s survey will be used to continue to improve support to victims and to reduce violence in the future.
"Since launching their Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG*) Strategy in 2022 and Serious Violence Strategy in 2024, we have made important progress towards reducing violence, but we know there is more to do. Please help us continue this work by completing this short survey."

Summer 2 - Week 3
Eco Tip: Sunny days at home
- Dry clothes outdoors: Skip the tumble dryer and let the sun do the work. 🌞
- Use fans instead of air conditioning: They use far less energy. 🆒
- Close blinds during the day: Keeps your home cooler naturally. 😎
- Switch to natural insect repellents: Look for citronella, eucalyptus, or lavender-based options. 🐜
