Miss McNamara's Message

The biggest celebration this week must go to our amazing Year 6 pupils, who have shown such maturity, focus and calmness throughout their SATs. We are incredibly proud of the way they have approached each test with resilience and determination. A huge thank you also goes to our dedicated staff team for preparing the children so thoroughly and supporting them every step of the way - it’s been a true team effort.

We were also delighted to welcome our governors into school this week for the fourth annual meeting. They were full of praise for the quality of our curriculum, particularly our writing after Miss Winterburn, our English Leader, presented to them. Governors were impressed by the carefully chosen texts we use across the school and how thoughtfully they are sequenced to support vocabulary development, comprehension and writing outcomes. It was wonderful to share the impact of our work with them.

This week also saw more phonics coaching in partnership with the English Hub. Our consultant continues to be so impressed with the consistency and ‘slickness’ of our phonics teaching. These sessions help us to continually sharpen our practice and ensure every child is getting the very best start to their reading journey.

Thank you to everyone for another fantastic week at Coppice Valley.

School Meal Taster & Showcase - 3pm onwards on Thursday 22 May

Don't forget our Hutchison Catering Showcase on Thursday, 22 May, at 3pm. This is your chance to sample some scrumptious food and meet the fantastic team behind our school meals.

The Executive Chef and Area Manager from Hutchison Catering will be there to answer all your questions, gather your valuable feedback, and treat you to a variety of delicious tasters. If you cannot make the showcase, please don't worry, samples will be available after school!

CVPS Governor Peter Lacey Walks for Dementia Forward

In 2020, Peter Lacey planned to mark a milestone birthday by walking the 96-mile St Oswald’s Way—from Heavenfield to Lindisfarne. Then COVID hit, and the journey was put on hold.

Now, five years later, Peter is finally taking on the challenge, this time to raise funds for Dementia Forward, a charity he’s proud to support. “We’ve crossed paths over the years, and I’m delighted to give back,” he says.

Peter sets off on May 19th and hopes to raise £2,000—or more—with your help. Every mile supports those affected by dementia.

Support Peter’s walk and donate here.

Community Garden - We've been planting!

We’ve been busy planting with our children inour community garden at the front of school, and the garden is growing beautifully!

💧 You’re very welcome to water the flower beds—they’ll appreciate the care!
🚫 Please don’t dig in the beds, as our young plants are still settling in.

Thank you for helping us keep this a lovely space for everyone to enjoy!

🌟 Updated Club Opportunities – Now Open to More Year Groups! 🌟

We’re excited to share that our extracurricular club list has been updated—with several clubs now open to additional year groups! This change reflects our ongoing commitment to providing enriching opportunities for every pupil at our school.

We’re incredibly proud to offer at least one extracurricular club space for every child, and we’re always looking to improve. While we know that club availability can sometimes vary by age group across terms, we’re working hard to ensure a balanced and inclusive offering.

💬 We’d love your input!
If you have suggestions for new clubs or feedback on our current offerings, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Your ideas help us grow and better serve our school community.
