Friday update from Mrs McNamara

Posted 23rd February 2024

Hannah McNamaraMessage from Miss McNamara

We have had a lovely first week back at school with a highlight being the Young Voices concert which our children attended in Sheffield on Wednesday. Snow prevented us going before the half term, but we were really lucky to be able to re-book onto another performance. The children represented our school brilliantly, had excellent behaviour and performed with both talent and enthusiasm! We are really grateful to all the staff who attended the event, it is long day and without them it couldn't happen.

This week you may have read the news that I have now been made permanent in my role as Headteacher of Coppice Valley. As you can imagine, I am absolutely delighted. Coppice is a brilliant school, with amazing children, staff and parent community. I am really looking forward to the future of Coppice Valley and would like to thank you for your kind and congratulatory messages this week.

Attendance

Attendance Matters LogoWe have introduced some new school protocols to help you monitor your child's attendance. At the end of every half term we will be sending you an update on your child's attendance and you will be able to see which 'attendance band' they are in. Expected school attendance is 95% or more (set by the DfE) however, we have a school attendance target of 97%.

If your child's attendance is below 95%, we will notify you before the end of the half term and we can support you with improving this, if required.

  • This week's attendance is: 96.8%
  • School year so far: 95.3%

Arriving after 8:55am, which is when registers are taken, affects attendance. Our registers close at 9am.

This week, 7 children have been late to school.

Healthy Snack Stall

For children's mental health week, two of our Year 5 pupils, Lola S and Gracie, ran a healthy snack stall. They raised a fantastic £300 - what an achievement! We will be keeping the funds to one side and supporting the children to decide how they wish to spend the money.

Parents' Evening Appointments

You will have received an e-mail telling you how to book your parents' evening appointment. I know there were some technical glitches with some of the appointments but we think these are all fixed now! Please let your child's class teacher know you are struggling to make an appointment.

Harrogate Town FC Diversity T-Shirt Competition

We are delighted to share that Flo in Year 3 has won the competition! The judging panel decided that her t-shirt design was amazing and selected her as the winner.

As a result of this Flo has won the following prizes:

  • Diversity Books Package for our school, to be presented to us by a first team player.
  • Mascot package for this Saturday's game against Walsall
  • Her designed T-shirt will be worn by the team as they warm up for the game on Saturday 24th February.

We are so proud, congratulations Flo.
