Green Flag Award
Eco-Schools is a global programme engaging 19.5 million children across 67 countries, making it the largest educational programme on the planet.
For over 25 years Eco-Schools has been empowering children to drive change and improve their environmental awareness through the simple Seven-Step framework in order to achieve the international Eco-Schools Green Flag award.
Eco-Schools develops pupils’ skills, raises environmental awareness, improves the school environment and creates financial savings for schools as well as a whole host of other benefits.
Coppice Valley is very proud to be an Eco School. We have achieved the highest accolade for our commitment and eco work in school, which is the Green Flag status. We have an Eco Team made up of our pupils and staff, who work together to make our school eco-friendly.

Coppice Valley Primary School’s New Recycling Initiative
We’re excited to announce that Coppice Valley Primary School has received a generous grant from the npower Business Solutions Foundation to introduce brand-new recycling bins across our school. This is a fantastic step forward in our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and education.
How will the new recycling bins change daily life for our pupils?
These new bins will make recycling a seamless part of everyday school life, helping our pupils develop lifelong habits of environmental responsibility. Key changes include:
- Colour-Coded Bins: Bins are clearly colour-coded throughout the school to help pupils quickly identify where to dispose of different types of waste.
- Waste Separation: We now separate food waste, general waste, plastics, and paper/card recycling. This helps pupils understand the importance of sorting waste correctly.
- Pencil Shavings Collection: Pencil shavings are gathered and used as kindling in our Forest School, as a source of carbon in our composting and as moisture retention in our soil. All showing pupils how waste can be repurposed in a sustainable way.
- Battery Collection: Our Community Hub now collects used batteries to ensure safe and responsible disposal.
- Pens and Glue Stick Recycling: We’ve started collecting empty pens and glue sticks, as they make up a significant portion of school waste. This initiative helps reduce our environmental footprint.
How do we teach sustainability at Coppice Valley?
Sustainability is woven into everyday school life. Our pupils don’t just learn about environmental care—they put it into practice. From an early age, they’re encouraged to develop habits that will have a lasting impact on the environment.

We’re thrilled about this initiative and can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have on our school and wider community!
