Unlocking Learning Through Language and Creativity!
At Coppice Valley, we believe that all pupils should be able to confidently communicate their ideas and knowledge and apply their creativity through writing. Our writing curriculum is built around a five-phase approach and is taught through carefully chosen, high-quality texts that inspire and engage all learners.
We aim for every child to develop a broad vocabulary, a strong understanding of grammar, and the ability to spell new words by applying the spelling patterns and rules they have learned throughout their time at primary school. Pupils are taught to write clearly, accurately, and coherently, adapting their language and style to suit a variety of contexts, purposes, and audiences.
We place great importance on the close link between reading and writing, using rich texts to model excellent language, structure, and ideas. Pupils are encouraged to take pride in the presentation of their writing, supported by a focus on developing a fluent, joined handwriting style.
We understand that great writers are reflective writers. We teach children to review, refine, and edit their work independently, helping them to identify areas for improvement and develop resilience and ownership over their writing process.
