School Life

Friday Update 01.05.2026

It has been another positive and busy week in school, with lots to celebrate.

I am pleased to share that we have successfully recruited a new Key Stage 2 teacher to join our team. We were overwhelmed to receive over 50 applications for this role, and I am incredibly proud that our school continues to attract such a high calibre of candidates. We are pleased to be welcoming Mr Bang, who will be joining us from Meadowfield, another school within our trust. He impressed us greatly throughout the process, and I know he will be a fantastic addition to our team.

Friday Update 24.04.2026

The focus of my message this week in on school attendance. As a school, we have a duty to keep parents informed about their child’s attendance. Your child’s current attendance percentage is always available to you via the Arbor app, and we also share updates through our attendance letters when we are monitoring attendance.

We know that each time letters regarding attendance are sent, they can sometimes lead to frustration. On occasion, we receive emails and, regrettably, some aggression from members of our parent community. This week multiple staff have received verbal aggression from our community. I want to take a moment to explain why this process is so important.

Friday Update 17.04.2026

We hope you have now had the opportunity to read our recently published Ofsted report. We are incredibly proud of what it says about our school and the community we have built together. It reflects the hard work, care and commitment shown every day by our staff, as well as the fantastic attitudes, behaviour and enthusiasm of our pupils.

Friday Update 27.03.2026 - Happy Easter!

As we come to the end of another fantastic and incredibly busy term, I want to take a moment to say thank you to our whole school community for all of your support.

This term has been full of learning, enrichment, achievements and memorable learning. We finished today with our Values Assembly, which was a lovely way to celebrate the children who consistently demonstrate our school values and make Coppice such a positive and special place to be.

I would also like to say a huge thank you to our staff team, who have worked tirelessly throughout the term. Schools are busy places every day, but this term has been especially full, and I am incredibly grateful for the commitment, care and energy our staff bring to school life.

Friday Update - 20.03.2026

It has been another very busy week in school, we are so proud of all the opportunities we offer our pupils. In the last 5 school days, we have had:

• Year 1&2 Sleepover
• New Menu Taster
• Year 1 Trip
• Parents’ Evening
• Walk to School Day
• U10s Football Tournament
• Family Breakfast

Friday Update - 13.03.2026

Firstly, a huge well done to Apple Class, who represented our school brilliantly during filming in school today. Their behaviour was exemplary and they were a real credit to our school. We are very excited to share the finished footage with you soon and know families will be proud of how wonderfully the pupils conducted themselves. A big thank you to Miss Morrow for offering(!) to do this.

Friday Update - 06.03.2026

What a lovely week we’ve had in school celebrating World Book Day! It was fantastic to see the children (and staff!) getting cosy in their pyjamas and sharing their love of books together. I really enjoyed reading a personal favourite (and my original copy) 'Burglar Bill' to the children, in assembly.

Friday Update - 27.02.2026

On Monday, we launched our whole-school writing unit centred around identity and self with an inspiring hip hop assembly and workshops. The day began with a lively assembly where all pupils were introduced to the rich culture and history of hip hop. They learned that hip hop is far more than music - it is a culture built on creativity, expression and community. We explored its elements such as breaking, graffiti art, DJing and MCing, and discussed how each form is rooted in storytelling and finding your voice.

Friday Update 13.02.2026 - Happy Half Term!

As we reach the end of a very full and rewarding half term, I would like to take a moment to thank you all for your continued support of our school community.

Today’s Values Assembly was a wonderful way to finish the term. It was a joy to celebrate the many ways our children have demonstrated our school values in action through kindness, perseverance, respect and responsibility; they are a credit to you and to our school.

Friday Update 06.02.2026

We were delighted to welcome Ian Tucker into school recently. During his visit, he spent time talking with leaders, exploring the school and getting a real sense of daily life at Coppice Valley.

He was particularly impressed by the calm and purposeful learning environment, the quality of displays, the appearance of the school and the high level of pupil engagement. He also commented on the warmth, professionalism and commitment shown by staff across the school. Our outdoor grounds also sparked interest, with clear enthusiasm to see even more of how these spaces support learning and enrichment.

As he prepares to formally begin his role later this month, he shared how excited he is to be working alongside staff with such high expectations and ambition. We are proud of the positive impression our pupils, staff and environment made.

Friday Update 30.01.2026

It has been another fantastic week at school, and I would like to start by celebrating the brilliant achievement of our girls’ football team. They represented the school superbly at their tournament yesterday, showing teamwork, resilience and determination. Coming second overall was a great achievement and we are incredibly proud of them.

Friday Update 23.01.2026

After the intensity of last week, it has been lovely to enjoy a calmer week in school! It’s given everyone the chance to catch their breath, refocus on the day-to-day joy of school life, and spend time doing what we do best - supporting our children to learn and thrive.

Friday Update 16.01.2025

As you know our school has undergone an Ofsted inspection this week, under the revised inspection framework.

As you may be aware, there are strict guidelines around the inspection process, which mean that we are unable to share the inspection outcomes or gradings at this stage. This also applies to discussions beyond what Ofsted permits, including with staff. We appreciate your understanding and patience while the process is completed.

What I can say, without hesitation, is how incredibly proud I am of our whole school community.

Friday Update 09.01.2026 - Happy New Year!

Happy New Year and welcome back to the Spring Term. It has been lovely to see the children return to school so positively after the break, full of energy and ready to learn. Although there was some disappointment at not being able to build any snowmen this week, we were pleased that the weather meant the decision to remain open was an easy one, allowing learning (and routines!) to continue as normal.

Friday Update 19.12.2025 - Merry Christmas!

As we come to the end of the autumn term, it feels like the perfect moment to pause and celebrate not just what has been a fantastic term, but what has been an amazing year at Coppice Valley.

Friday Update 12.12.2025

It has been another great week at Coppice Valley! Our EYFS and KS1 pupils have truly shone in their nativity performances. The children were so confident – it was a pleasure to see our youngest pupils take to the stage with such enthusiasm. A huge thank you to all the families who came along to support them; your encouragement means so much to the children and staff alike.

Friday Update 05.12.2025

What another great week it has been at Coppice Valley, with Christmas now in full swing across school. Our craft afternoons have taken place and it has been wonderful to see so many parents joining us in the hall, sharing in the festive creativity and joy. Thank you for taking the time to come in – the children absolutely loved it.

Reading Ambassadors - Christmas Advent Calendar

This December, Coppice Valley Primary School’s Reading Ambassadors have brought festive cheer to the school community with a creative twist on the traditional advent calendar. Instead of chocolates, each door reveals something even more exciting—a handpicked book recommendation!

Friday Update - 28.11.2025

It has been another fabulous week at Coppice Valley! This week we took all our KS1 and KS2 pupils to the panto – oh yes we did! It was absolutely brilliant, and the children (and staff) were fantastic throughout, from leaving school to arriving back. It is wonderful that all our pupils get to enjoy this annual experience. One of our governors even drove past us on our walk and phoned school to say how smart everyone looked and how impressed she was! We have already booked next year’s panto – Sleeping Beauty.

Friday Update - 21.11.2025

This week, I have to give a massive thank you to our staff team. We have had very high levels of staff illness, which have left us incredibly stretched. At 6am on Wednesday, we were genuinely discussing whether we could keep the school open. Yet our staff pulled together brilliantly – supporting one another, covering for each other, tag-teaming and checking in – to ensure we continued to support all of our pupils and deliver high-quality learning with skeleton staffing. I am extremely proud to be part of such a team who, despite the challenges, keep smiling.

Friday Update - 14.11.2025

What a week! We always love to keep ourselves busy at Coppice Valley, and this week has been no different. As you will have heard, it has been assessment week, so the children have been busy showing off some of the things they have learnt so far. We know that assessments can feel stressful for some pupils, so our approach is always to reassure them that tests are just one measure of what they know. They are certainly not the full picture, and they don’t measure the truly important things, like kindness and curiosity.

Friday Update - 07.11.2025

It’s been a great week at Coppice Valley, full of learning and creativity across the school. Teachers have been launching their new texts in English lessons, with lots of exciting ‘hooks’ to inspire pupils and spark curiosity about their new stories. Year 1 visited Pizza Express today and they each came back with a pizza that they made (with a couple of extras for the staffroom).

Friday Update - 24.10.25 - Happy Half Term!

As we come to the end of another busy half term at Coppice Valley, I always enjoy reflecting on all that’s been achieved. This half term has been full of learning, creativity and kindness - from our Forest School adventures in Reception, Year 2 and Year 5, to wonderful classroom learning, walk to school successes, trips and visitors and the continued work on establishing our new Zones of Regulation morning routines.

Friday Update - 17.10.25

What a wonderful week it’s been at Coppice Valley!

Our Eco Warriors have been out in force this week, taking part in our Rewilding Project. Armed with metre-squared quadrats, they began collecting baseline data by counting the variety of plant life within each square. This hands-on approach not only gives our children valuable scientific experience but also deepens their connection to our school grounds and local environment. We can’t wait to see how our rewilding efforts help biodiversity flourish over the coming months.

Friday Update - 03.10.2025

This week we were pleased to welcome the Red Kite Learning Trust Early Years lead into school. They visited to see our provision in action, with a particular focus on early reading. It was a real pleasure to share the wonderful progress our youngest children are making.

We also enjoyed having some new school photographs taken. The sunshine broke through just in time, helping us capture some really lovely moments of our children looking smart and full of smiles.

Friday Update - 26.09.2025

Next week, we are excited to see the installation of our new outdoor music garden – a brilliant addition that will support music lessons and give pupils another opportunity for creative play. A big thank you to our PTFA for helping to make this project possible.

This week, we welcomed our Primary Director to Coppice Valley. During a learning walk, they were very impressed by the quality of teaching and learning taking place across the school.

Weekly Update - 17.09.2025

It’s been another busy and exciting week at Coppice Valley! On Tuesday, we were delighted to welcome families to our Family Breakfast – what a great way to start the day together. Thank you to everyone who joined us. On Tuesday, we also welcomed the RKLT Maths Lead, who visited lessons, spoke to children, and was full of praise for the amazing maths learning already happening across Coppice Valley. A huge well done to pupils and staff for showcasing our brilliant work so confidently. This week we also held a SEND wellbeing drop-in under the canopy for parents and carer, providing a relaxed space for parents and carers to chat and share support.

What a brilliant first full week back at school it has been! The classrooms have been buzzing with energy as children have settled quickly into their routines, and it has been wonderful to see them embracing their learning with such enthusiasm. Our staff have been so impressed with the positive attitudes on display – it really sets the tone for a successful year ahead.

Friday Update - 18.07.2025 - Happy Summer!

This year, we’ve continued building a school that truly puts children first. One of our proudest achievements this academic year has been the successful launch of Forest School across the whole school – from Reception to Year 6. This has transformed our outdoor learning, offering every pupil a chance to build resilience, curiosity and a deep connection to nature.

Friday Update - 11.07.2025

This week, we’re taking a moment to celebrate some outstanding outcomes across school. Our KS2 results are in, and they are a fantastic reflection of the hard work that has taken place not just in Year 6, but right through from Reception upwards. These results show that our pupils are ready to take on the challenges of KS3 with confidence.

Thursday Update 03.07.2025

As we move into the final few weeks of term, there’s a real buzz around school - children are excitedly preparing for end-of-year performances, enjoying outdoor learning in Forest School, and reflecting on all they’ve achieved this year. I have been busy reading all of the children's end of year reports and it is a pleasure to read about so much confidence and progress across every year group.

Special thanks to Mrs Riley for her fantastic commentary – she kept us all informed and thoroughly entertained throughout!

Friday Update - 13.06.2025

We are so lucky to have such a buzzing, thriving school where I’m never short of things to write about each week! That’s all down to our supportive community, amazing staff, and brilliant children - who are all really 'up for it'.

Friday Update - 06.06.2025

We were absolutely thrilled to welcome the Project Manager from Northern Powergrid to school this week, along with contractor representatives. They spent time with myself and Mrs Fineran understanding our vision for outdoor learning and how we’re using nature to enhance the curriculum. We’re incredibly grateful to Northern Powergrid for their generous biodiversity grant of £50,000 to help develop our outdoor areas. This will make a transformational difference to the experiences we can offer our children – watch this space for updates on the project!

Their feedback was full of praise for our staff, pupils, and the sense of community we’ve built together.
